Christmas Mantel 2012 with a New “Woodsy” Creation!

I went for a “woodsy” theme this year.

Blog

See my little Hoot Owl hiding out?

I bought him while I was in Maine/LLBean.

Made the wreath out of hand painted pinecones.

And following with the whole pine cone thingy…

I came up with a couple of “woodsy” creations

blog

and this is what I made…

Wood Sliced Tree  Wood Sliced Pine Cone Tree

I call it my Sliced Wood Pine Cone Tree.

(You can see the downed trees in the background.)

pinecone tree blog

Painted some pinecones and glued them to each layer of wood.

I topped it off with a sweater bird that once again… I got in Maine/LLBean!

Also, made another kind of tree…

Sliced Wood Tree

I call this one my Sliced Wood Ornament Tree.

Very pleased with how both styles turned out!

Now onto the whole mantel…

Christmas Mantel

Used the ol’ barn again…from this fall and last year’s

 Christmas Barn Mantel.

Use what cha got…right?

(I still love my barn)

Just added my trees, painted pinecones, some garland, a few ornaments and lights… and there ya have it!

  11. You are by far one of the most creative women I read and I'm not just saying that cuz I LIKE you or because I think if we were neighbors there'd be no separating us from spending all of our extra time together laughing and making stuff and laughing some more!!!

Your mantle is WONDERFUL and the tree trunk trees are OVER-THE-TOP! Do I hear Country Living calling you? Or was that FOLK Magazine? Or BHG? Ooh they're all banging on your door!

  13. Hello - I know this post is from last year but I hope you see my comment anyway! My hubby is going to make me a similar design for our wall and I wondered if you recalled the paint color. (Reds ca be so tricky - too pink, too orange, too purple). Were you happy with this shade of red? It looks great in the photos. Thanks for any info.

    1. Hi Barbara! Yes... I LOVE the shade of red on the barn... and it comes from a mixture. I don't remember the exact combo... I usually use what I have on hand. But... I most likely used 'Heritage Brick' from Americana Acrylic paint... to lighten it you can add a little bit of 'Burnt Orange' from Americana (or any of the acrylic paints) and to darken you can add black. I can't remember which brand... but I believe I added some 'Christmas Red' Acrylic paint as well as 'Grumbacher Red' from Academy Acrylic. I would go and get some of the cheap little bottles from the craft store and play around with a good mixture unless you find one outright that you are happy with. The lighting in your house will make a difference in how red it looks... that's why I have to play around with colors sometimes! Shading with the paint will also help make it more dimensional. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your barn!!

    2. Hi..... I love your trees...dumb question, where do you get your trees?

  14. Love your barn. Did you make it and if so, using what wood etc. would you share the directions? The barn could be used Year round and decorated according to season. My wife is into Amish/rustic themes and this would look great on our mantle.
