Winter Mantel 2014

Happy New Year Everyone!

That means the Christmas décor is gone and my Winter Mantel is up!

This year’s mantel was created with a few thrift store finds…

along with some things I already had… which makes for some very

inexpensive décor.

I decided to mix some fabric and texture pieces together and use a cool color palette (gray, brown, blue and cream) for this winter’s mantel.

The two light and dark gray solid fabric pieces are from a thrift store that actually sells a lot of scrap fabric for cheap (love that store!!)

I simply cut the fabric up and wrapped them around canvas boards.

The brown plaid fabric is actually a pillow case (same thrift store) I mounted onto cardboard and you will see an old printer’s type case/drawer tucked behind in the back.

The vase is actually covered in a rolled up sweater vest… another purchase from the thrift store.

I used placemats to add some texture along with a woven piping cord art piece I created for last year’s Natural Textured Rustic Winter Mantel.

The skinny branches are from some crape myrtle bushes in my back yard…

branches always add that natural element I like!

Fabric snowflakes were hung on some really cool pieces of sycamore branches I found at the local park. The trees had been damaged in a storm and piled up to be hauled off… (by me… shhhh!!!) LOL! I love the bark… reminds me of a cow pattern.

I used some of the thicker branches in an antique metal bucket on the hearth.
