OK… One More Time

Donna over at Funky Junk Interiors has a “Gitter Done” link party this week.  Isn’t that a great idea? I think it’s what we all needed! Thanks Donna!

I had lots planned but things went awry and the pressure washer as well as the chain saw had to go to the shop a couple of weeks ago…

They are still there!

So I knew I could paint something and this faux stacked stone wall has been on my list.

But the color was still bothering me… it lightened up the space but not enough.

So… for the sake of “Gitter Done” Day… I went further and transformed it again.

Simple changes with simple decorating.

First, I lightened the wall (again) by painting a lighter stone and grout.  It finally turned out the way I wanted!!

Next, it was time to decorate the wall.

I had some woven placemats from Walmart I picked up months ago for like $3.00 a piece.

My neighbor gave me extra coffee cans used for storing… well, not anymore!

final10

I had rafia (LOVE rafia) and tied it around the cans.

I used velcro at first to attach them to the place mat but it wasn’t as tight as I needed.

So, I hot glued the velcro together.  Now it’s on good!!

Took some flowers and plopped them in the cans.

Yes… it was that simple and cheap!

But once I had them up and in place… the placemats popped way too much (in my opinion)!  Just way too dark.

So… I took them all down and painted them a lighter color to blend in better with the wall.

However, I broke a decorating rule… I was taught to decorate in odd numbers… like three.  But… I made another and put four up!!

I like it better with 4!

Yay!! I’m finally happy with it… 3 paint jobs later!!

  3. I like the lighter colour you've chosen for the stone and especially for the 'grout'. As for the placemats, I don't think you broke the rules at all...looks to me like a set of three above the window and a separate 'set' of one above the door. Still odd numbers!

  4. I like the 4 better than 3 as well. And I like the lighter color. Great job. And all I had to do was paint a trunk.

  6. Woa... what a great end result after all that fuss and muss! Very cool wall treatment I might add. I agree with you on all accounts, the lighter looks wonderful for both the wall and place mats. Darling idea for flowers!

Good for you on persevering until it was done right! Aren't we the fuss pots at times? (but we KNOW when it's right by golly we do..)

  12. I think all of the different paint jobs have been amazing! I'm such a sucker for those placemats too. Almost got some at WalMart, but figured I would wait, and then they were all gone! Oh, and I think it's ok that you broke the rule - 4 definitely fills up the space more. =)

  13. I was looking at your placemat art before I read the article and thought that was a real stone wall behind the placemats. i have an art degree and teach art and you truly had me fooled with that wall. I can't believe you had the patience to do the whole wall three times. I would have never been able to do that. You go girl! It looks great!

  18. Beautifully done. I too love to paint my house. My next project is to do a kitchen backsplash over the existing laminate backsplash. Have you done anything like that? I was also wondering what type of paint did you use?

    1. Thanks Kris... I have not done anything like that... but it sounds interesting! Hope it goes well for you. I used a mixture of latex and acrylic paint on my stone wall.
